Here you can enjoy and experience the authentic atmosphere of Lapland in a beautiful courtyard, in rugged landscapes on a hilltop. You can admire the fell all year round, enjoy the fresh air and relax. Here you can experience a nightless night and admire the northern lights. There are a lot of birds living in our yard and reindeer can come to greet the guests. We wish you unforgettable experiences in Lapland!

Arrival

The address of the cottage is Kiljaanintie 3. When you come from the south, the cottage is on the left side of the hilltop and from the north on the right. The status of the pit is partly visible on the road. The cottage's yard can be reached by car. The train bus stops right in front of the Pit. Please note that you must continue your journey directly towards Äkäslompolo past the Pit house (it remains on the left side). The road turns from the north side to Kuoppa.

The key can be found in a small black compartment on the left side of the front door. You will receive the code for it, ask if we haven't sent it yet. Don't share the code with others.

Food

Arriving from south, you can buy food from Kolari. If you arrive from the north, you can buy food from Jounin kauppa in Äkäslompolo. If you drive through Rovaniemi, you can shop in Levi. The cottage has basic utensils for preparing food. We have a gas grill with tasty steaks. In summer, you can barbecue with an open fire in front of the warehouse or at the campfire site behind the Ranger's house near the source.

You can order groceries through us ready in the fridge before entering the cottage. Ask us for more information about the service.

Settling in

Grooppi is ready for your accommodation. The second key to the cottage is on the table next to this folder. The second key should be kept as a spare key in the security box next to the front door.

You will find instructions for all home appliances in other folder.

You can use all the food you can find in the cottage. If the outdoor temperature is below -15 degrees, it is a good idea to connect the car to an electrical outlet on the cottage wall.

Fireplace

Open the main damper of the barrel by pulling out the string on the right side of fireplace. Also open the ignition damper (black one) on the side of the stove (right) by pulling out the lever. The fireplace gets a direct pull and it ignites better. After that, you can make a fire.

The grille under the fireplace doors can also be kept open during the ignition phase. The fireplace gets air through it.

When the fire is ignited, close the side damper. After this, the fireplace stores heat and heats. You can also close or lower the grille under the fireplace. Do not leave the ignition damper open when there is a fire in the fireplace as it may damage the flue.

The main damper on top of the fireplace can only be closed when the fireplace is no longer heated and there is no fire in it. Please note that all charcoal has also been extinguished to avoid the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Bathroom exhaust fan

After the sauna, the exhaust fan is used to remove moisture and steam and to dry the sauna.

The fan lever can be found next to the door on the outside side. The lever is turned to middle power and left on for about 15 minutes after sauna. If necessary, it can be kept on with minimum power during sauna.

Gas cooker

Tasty steaks on a gas stove. The main lock is in the drawer next to the hob. The gas cylinder is located next to the owen on the left side. A spare gas cylinder can be found in outdoor equipment stock . Please always be careful with fire. To avoid the risk of fire, never leave it unattended.

Cooker hood

Always use a cooker hood when cooking. The cooker hood switch is located in wall on the left side.

Dishwasher

The dishwasher shut-off valve is attached to the tap. Remember to open the faucet before using the washing machine and then turn it off.

Electric sauna

The power is adjusted by the sauna masters to make the sauna pleasant, but it can be fine-tuned if necessary 😊

The switch for the sauna can be found in the sleeping recess on the wall on the sauna side

1. Click on the sauna on the power switch

2. Then press the START / STOP switch at the bottom of the board

The heating time of the sauna to the steam condition is about 45 minutes. For milder steams, throw water on the side of the stove. The comby steams are released by throwing water on the stove. The recommended temperature for saunaing in the perpetual heater is 50-70 degrees.

After the sauna, leave the stove on for about a quarter more. Be sure to turn off the stove if it has not already turned off by itself.

Waste disposal

In line with our values, we favor recycling. Waste bins can be found in the smallest yard storage at the back of the yard on the right. A biowaste bin can be found next to the smallest canopy outside the building.

Ecological lifestyle

On the Kuoppa farm, we strive to follow an ecological lifestyle in all our activities. This means that we hope that visitors will also take into account e.g. the following perspectives:

· Use electricity sparingly

· Try to keep the amount of laundry reasonable. We have reserved one bath towel per person for your stay.

· We recycle waste. Waste bins for glass, metal, cardboard and plastic can be found in the smallest outdoor storage. We empty the dishes regularly. The biowaste is put in compost. The composter is located outside next to the smallest storage.

· Use firewood sparingly. You will need wood to heat the outdoor sauna heater and water tank, as well as the cottage fireplace. It is not necessary to keep the fire in the fireplace all the time, but the damper should be closed when all the trees are completely burned (see instructions). Then the fireplace will comfortably heat the entire space. Your visit includes trees brought to the space next to the fireplace and to the sauna. Additional trees are shed for 20 euros per blue Ikea bag. Leave the wood fee in the drawer on the bookshelf. Do not take trees from outdoor stacks or from nature.

Patio Sauna

The 70-year-old sauna old man guarantees you gentle steam. The visit includes the trees ready in the sauna.

The sauna has a wood-burning stove. To start heating, always burn a small fire first and gradually add wood. There are no openable dampers in the sauna, but you can make a fire in the stove nest immediately. The sauna is ready for use when the meter on the wall shows 60 degrees. This will take about an hour. Remember to always close the sauna door when heating the sauna.

The pot is heated with washing water. One nesting tree is enough for heating. The water in the sauna is carried from the inside. Milk carts as an aid for carrying water. In summer, water can be taken through the garden hose, which is attached to the side of the house.

The last of the saunas takes care that the sauna is clean after use and raises the floor grilles to dry. In winter, water cannot be left in the dams as they crack unusable in the frost.

Clear water spring

Behind the courtyard sauna and Grooppi is a clear water spring. In the spring water, the body and mind are purified. You can take a refreshing dip in the spring bath or even after a sport in summer times.The water temperature can be compared to the open. Cold water has been found to do good for muscles.

Common areas

In the yard of the Kuoppas farm there is another cottage called Forest Ranger House for rent. Some of the facilities are shared by both cottages. These common facilities include a yard sauna, a fountain and a fire-setting place, an outdoor equipment storage facility and a wood shed, which also houses the waste management of real estate.

Considerations

· Sports equipment (skis, wheels, snowboards) must be stored, serviced and washed in a reserved place in the yard. The boots can certainly be brought in warm.

· Do not dry any clothes in the sauna.

Departure

Please make sure the cottage is as clean as when you arrive. We wash towels and sheets for you so you can leave them in place.

Check that the fireplace dampers are closed.

Make sure no light is left on. Some exterior lights operate on a timer, so not all exterior lights may turn off.

Make sure you empty the rubbish into the appropriate places. Do not leave perishable food in the refrigerator.

It would be nice if you would write greetings in the guestbook 😊

Before putting the door in the lock, make sure that there is one key in the lock box next to the door. You can then leave another key on the table. Lock the doors and still make sure you have taken care of all the window closed.
